Welcome/Bienvenidos to the History of Puerto Rico. I am thrilled to have you join me in learning about the history and the people of Puerto Rico. In this course, we trace the history of Puerto Rico from the pre-Colombian Taino people to Spanish colonial rule, to its status as a United States Commonwealth. This one-time class will incorporate lectures, class discussions, and stories of Puerto Ricans, in their voices. The history will also explore the unique political and legal position the island has in the United States.
