Beginner Level
“History is not the past but a map of the past, drawn from a particular point of view, to be useful to the modern traveler.” Henry Glassie, US historian (1941- ) If you need extra help to study for a weekly test, help to complete a research project, how to organize your study notes or general study help- I would love to work with you. History is learned from many different perspectives, this can be one of the reasons that it can be challenging to learn, as the view being taught may be new or difficult to understand. #academic Learning and reading in history require learners to have a knowledge of the vocabulary being used-which changes from one time period to another. Answering DBQs is a challenge because the learner needs to understand the primary sources, the context of the sources, and the questions being asked. In addition, they require advanced writing skills. #confidence Research projects can be a lot of fun when the topic interests you, but maybe you are stuck on which topic to choose. Perhaps you know what you want to tell people, but are unsure of where to find reliable sources to use as evidence. Maybe you need to know how to begin your research project. I can help!
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Teaching American and World History infers that events that are often unpleasant to learn about are often necessary in order to understand future events. I base the information taught on the age of the learner. Some event details are appropriate for all ages, and other information is appropriate for older learners.
I will sometimes use Kahoot! as a review game for certain topics. Each Kahoot! review session is private and a direct link is provided when class starts.
Parents, please reach out to me if you have specific concerns over possible details discussed in our class. History is often told from the perspective of the winners, but historians prefer to learn about all the stories. I will prepare my lessons based on your learner's specific objectives and standards.
