Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Robert Smalls is an important unsung American hero who deserves to be recognized for his amazing contributions in history. He was a force to be reckoned with before, during and after the civil war.
In class, students will learn about the Life of Robert Smalls. They will learn the amazing story of how he made one of the most daring escapes away from slavery to eventually being elected as a member into the U.S. House of Representatives. Robert Smalls was able to prove to the world that black people were/are capable of succeeding and making changes for the better. Learners will understand the role that Smalls played in the Civil War and how he strived to help African Americans gain freedom and rights. By the end of the class, students will know why Robert Smalls deserves a place in our history books.

This lesson will be interactive, and each student will have an opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions. If you have any questions about the class or suggestions please send a message. Class may go over 30 minutes as I love to give every student the opportunity to speak in class.

If you prefer a 1on1 class, please let me know.

Like in my other classes, we will talk about the brutality of slavery, the Civil War, and racism. It's very important to know that I don't sugarcoat tough topics. I explain topics in an age-appropriate manner that learners can understand without sugarcoating our true history.

Most importantly, I will allow each student to express their thoughts and opinions about this topic. This will help them communicate and show what they have learned.
