World History Class - History Through The Ages

Not your typical history class! In this full-year 36-week course, students will travel through time and around the world with a front-row seat to a side of history not normally taught in schools.

Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
This is a unique approach to history class, where we delve deeper into the subject beyond the typical high-level historical facts. The aim of this approach is to make history more engaging and fun, while still ensuring that the students learn valuable lessons.

We will be exploring history from various times and places around the world. This includes a wide range of topics, from dinosaurs to the bubonic plague, moon landings, and even some unusual old medical practices. This diverse range of topics is designed to keep the students interested and engaged in the subject matter.

The ultimate goal of this class is to foster a love for learning and to show students that history doesn't have to be stiff and boring. It is my hope that your child will leave the class with a newfound interest in history and an understanding of the valuable lessons that can be learned from studying the past.

This class does not deep dive into any one particular culture or group. We stay on high-level topics and facts. During my time in college, I took several history classes that I've pulled from to create this unique curriculum. I've also taken many liberal arts classes on perspective and social psychology which allow me to teach history in a non-biased and multidisciplinary way incorporating a multitude of perspectives. We will be looking at history through different historical lenses: social, political, and economic and how that applies to the thematic categories: emotional intelligence, self-care, career connections, and ethics.

Parental Guidance
There are several wars covered and when we get into medicine through the ages kids love being grossed out over some of the weirder medical practices. Nothing is graphic in nature and should be suitable for children above the age of 10. YouTube is used in class for fun video examples.
Supply List
Everything will be provided in class.
For the best experience, students should attend class on a laptop, desktop, or iPad, but not on a mobile device or attempting to join class while in the car. (It never goes well!)

Teacher expertise and credentials
My degrees are in child psychology and creative writing. During my time in college, I elected to take every history class I could, simply because I have a passion for it! I have also completed US History and World History from Sophia.org for extra CE training. I have been tutoring on Outschool for the last 3 years and homeschooling my own kiddo for the last 9 years.
