The SSAT Upper Level Essay requires students to write a short story or essay in twenty-five minutes. Two writing prompts will be provided, and students are asked to select one the writing prompts In this class we will: • Read and analyze prompts • Create narratives that can be used in multiple formats • Learn how to organize your writing to maximize your time • Practice writing intro sentences • Learn short essay structures Part 1: Getting to know the writing component In part one, we will determine our strengths and weaknesses, analyze prompts, and design personal adaptable narratives. We will practice writing engaging introduction sentences and how write efficiently. Each student will have an opportunity to share their sentences and receive feedback from me. Part 2: Write It Out In part two, we will use the strategies and skills learned in part one to craft narratives. We will learn how to organize our writing and structure it for on-demand essays. Each student will have the opportunity to share their writing and receive feedback from me.
