Homework
Students will be asked to complete short 20 minutes tasks after class each day in preparation for the next day. Students will be expected to complete three assignments outside of this class, so they can receive proper feedback and next steps. This includes crafting one short response, the narrative assignment, and one prompt analysis worksheet.

Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
The SSAT Upper Level Essay requires students to write a short story or essay in twenty-five minutes. Two writing prompts will be provided, and students are asked to select one the writing prompts

In this class we will:
•	Read and analyze prompts
•	Create narratives that can be used in multiple formats
•	Learn how to organize your writing to maximize your time
•	Practice writing intro sentences
•	Learn short essay structures

Part 1: Hour 1
In part one, we will determine our strengths and weaknesses, analyze prompts, and design personal adaptable narratives. We will learn how to structure an on-demand essay. We will practice writing engaging introduction sentences and how to write efficiently. Each student will have an opportunity to share their sentences and receive feedback from me. We will learn techniques on how to craft narratives from memory and the power of retelling stories from our lives using the lens of an admissions reader.

Part 2: Hour 2
We will practice responding to two types of writing prompts. Students will receive real time feedback.
We will practice responding to one prompt (student’s choice) and student’s will receive practice prompts to work on at home.
