Vocabulary is a key part of the SSAT and one of the main areas it tests. In this course students will analyze the different types of analogies, learn how to eliminate incorrect answers, and develop a strategy to increase speed and accuracy. In this class we will: Understand, identify, and analyze the different types of analogies Learn strategies to eliminate incorrect answers Practice analogy drills with accuracy scoring We will learn the different types of analogies, learn how to eliminate answers, and practice speed and accuracy. We will complete analogy drills and examine the answers. We will analyze responses and dissect distraction answer choices. Students will be able to ask clarifying questions and examine their own thinking. Day 1: Introduction to the SSAT Verbal Exam, Scoring, and Analogy Levels of Difficulty In the first session you will learn how to score well, determine the type of analogies, and determine your skill level We will also end each session with an analogy drill Day 2: Analogies - Synonyms and Antonyms This session will focus on synonyms and antonym analogies. Students will go through a series of drills and response analysis. Day 3: Part to whole, Cause to effect, Object to purpose Increasing the difficulty of analogies, we will focus how to determine the type of analogy in order to answer the questions correctly. Day 4: Source to product, General to specific, Degrees, and Sequences In part 4, students will engage with more difficult analogies utilizing the tools learned in the previous sessions. Day 5: Practice Exam and Scoring Students will participate in three timed practice exams to determine their skill mastery and next steps for studying.
