1 hour per week. Homework will not be assigned, but learners will be encouraged to practice the solfeggio syllables and hand signs for at least 10 minutes a day.Class Experience
This class will help young learners begin to build a foundation for an important musical skill - solfege or solfeggio! Solfege is a system that helps train the ear to recognize relationships between pitches and hear patterns in music. It is never too soon to begin building this musical foundation! Over the four week course learners will learn the solfege syllables (do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti) and the hand signs used for each. In each lesson we will play different musical games, including call and response and imitation games, to reinforce the syllables and hand signs. And learners will learn solfege and hand signs for many different melodies and songs so that they will be able to practice at home. Week 1: This lesson will begin with a brief introduction to solfege, answering the questions: Where did it come from? Why is it important or helpful? Then learners will learn do, mi, and sol with hand signs. Week 2: This lesson will begin with a brief review of the previous week (do, mi, sol). Then learners will learn re, fa with hand signs. Week 3: This lesson will begin with a brief review of the previous week (do, re, mi, fa, sol). Then learners will learn la, ti with hand signs. Week 4: In the final class, learners will use the solfeggio syllables and hand signs for the entire octave to practice intervals. This is a beginner level class, learners do not need any prior knowledge of solfeggio or the hand signs! But the one time Solfeggio: Learning the ABC's (or Do Re Mi's) of Music! class is a great overview of solfeggio for learners to see what it is all about!
