Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Hello! Welcome to introduction to music theory. This course is perfect for anyone interested in learning the basics of reading music, understanding chords, and applying this knowledge into melodic and rhythmic dictation.

The course entails different topic of music theory, building from the basics up each week. We will start off learning note names in multiple clefs. We then intro note names and values. We then shift to learning about whole steps and half steps and how this connects to triads and chords.

The class will be structured based on the different topics. Each lesson will start will a mini review of the prior lesson and going over any question. Then the main focus of the lesson will be on the assigned topic for the day. The end of the lesson consists of a variety of mini no stress assessments such as asking questions to identify different elements of what was taught that session as well as listening and dictation activities to build up aural skills.

My teaching style is methodical and supports layering to achieve a clear understanding of each of the topics. I believe students should ask questions and that patience is important in order for all students to have a clear understanding.

Students are welcome to collaborate throughout the lesson by unmuting their microphones for discussion and to ask questions to move the conversation forward.

Learning Goals
