Class Experience
This class provides tutoring in Music Theory. The exact topics will be decided by the teacher, learner and parent. Topics could include music reading, chord building, key signatures, transposition, musical analysis. It would be helpful for the parents or learner to send goals or other information on the learner's musical experience before the first session to assist in planning an appropriate lesson. If no information is received, the teacher will be prepared to teach basic note reading, key signatures or chord building following a quick assessment of the students needs. The learner is always welcome to bring specific questions to any session.
Learning Goals
Goals will be individualized based on each learner.
Possible goals could include:
Improve music reading skills
Understand key signatures
Be able to build chords or scales
Learn how to transpose music from one key to another
Understand enharmonics

Teacher expertise and credentials
I hold a Bachelor's in Instrumental Music Education from Florida State University. My coursework included four semesters of Music Theory. The majority of my remaining coursework applied and built upon the concepts taught in those classes. I have also been teaching music in various contexts for the past 23 years. Currently I teach flute, piano, recorder and general music. I include level appropriate music theory instruction in all of my music classes.
