What's included

1 live meeting
55 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
1 hour per week. Homework is not required, but will be provided. Grown ups (parent/ guardians) will be given the answer keys so they can monitor their student's learning and growth.
Assessment
Assessments are informal, but will be provided at the end of each lesson as a "check for understanding." This knowledge check helps the teacher to gauge her level of teaching, as well as students to assess whether they "get it" or not. Assessments will be fun and gamified, including activities like Kahoot.

Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
This enrichment group approaches some of the most important skills that students need to be successful in elementary reading class.

Each lesson will follow the same general format: the teacher will welcome each student by name, teacher introductions, student introductions, the topic of the lesson will be introduced, students will be given a chance to discuss any prior knowledge they have about this topic, then we will begin our lesson. Lessons will include one or more reading comprehension passages, discussion, and comprehension questions. Students will be informally assessed on their knowledge by typing their answer (if multiple choice), kahoots, or other gamified learning activities.

Topics:
- 9/18: Author's Purpose
- 9/25: Inferencing
- 10/2: Plot
- 10/9: Making Connections
- 10/16: Imagery and Sensory Language
- 10/23: Figurative Language
- 10/30: Character Traits & Change
- 11/6: Context Clues
Learning Goals
This enrichment group is a refresher that builds on what was learned through the school year. These lessons are over general skills your student was taught no matter where they are enrolled in school.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
No parental guidance is necessary! None of our content is inappropriate in any way, and is what I use in my classroom as a public educator. We will use Kahoot.
Pre-Requisites
Reading comprehension passages will be at a 4th grade reading level. However, all students can benefit from this group because we aren't focusing on HOW to read, but the comprehension skills used with reading.
Supply List
Materials will be provided via PDF before the course. These will need to be printed. All information, reading passages, etc., will also be displayed on the teacher's screen, but it will be easier for students to have their copies printed.
