Class Experience
In this flexible schedule, 5 week class, we will take a close look real pirates who sailed the high seas! We will explore 10 pirates; we will learn what he (or she!) did before piracy, why they became a pirate, life as a pirate, and what ultimately happened to them! No purchases will be needed for this class, and information needed will be provided through handouts . Prerecorded Lessons will consist of some or all of the following: slides and a lecture. Students will learn about the real pirates who have influenced mythical pirate figures!
I am a K-12 Teacher, Historian, Criminologist, and Sociologist, as well as an experienced online teacher. I have studied these topics in depth and am well read on the subjects, and continue to devote time to learning about new facts, developments, theories, and discoveries.
Students will need writing and coloring utensils to complete the pirate persona activity during the last week of class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
As we will be learning about real pirates in history, it is advised that we will be discussing some sensitive topics as pirate history is filled with violence. Sensitive topics include violence, kidnapping, bloodshed, and gender inequality. The teacher will do her best to discuss the sensitive topics in a child-friendly manner without losing the historical facts attached to the real pirates we will explore.
