Beginner Level
This flexible schedule, high school-level, introductory class explores ancient civilizations, beginning with early humans through the fall of the Roman Empire. Throughout the course, an emphasis is placed on the development of social studies skills, critical thinking skills, geography skills and the multicultural nature of society. As a flex class, we will not meet live! Each week will be a flexible schedule. We will study the following topics over the course of 5 weeks: Week 1: Ancient Mesopotamia & Egypt Week 2: Ancient America's Week 3: Ancient China & India Week 4: Ancient Greece Week 5: Ancient Rome & the Holy Roman Empire Students will demonstrate their learning through participation in the weekly classroom activities (no live meetings). *This is a flexible schedule class. Each lesson will be delivered via a prerecorded video that will be uploaded into the classroom every week. Each week, students will be assigned two reflective activities to gauge what the student knows, doesn't know, and/or kind of knows, to complete prior to the prerecorded videos. Two prerecorded video lessons will be assigned each week. Each student will be required to respond to the reflective activities and the prerecorded video lessons, as directed by the activity or video posting, in order to develop a sense of community in the class. The instructor will be available to help and will provide individual feedback throughout the course. Each week, reflective activities and videos will be posted as follows: The reflective activities will be posted prior to their corresponding video lessons. The first reflective activity will be posted on Monday, the first video posted on Wednesday, the second reflective activity will be posted on Thursday, and the second video posted on Friday. Individual feedback will be provided to students throughout each week. All timeframes are based on Arizona (Mountain) Time. By the end of the 5 weeks, students will: Demonstrate and strengthen abilities to present historical information. Strengthen note-taking skills. Compare/contrast/synthesize and analyze information. Exercise critical thinking and communication skills in formal and informal discussions.

Parental Guidance
In this class, we will be learning about times in history that are sensitive or mature, such as racial discrimination, ethnic discrimination, enslaved labor, religious struggles, and other inequalities, sensitive or mature historical topics from ancient civilization. It is advised that such topics will be accurately discussed in a teen-friendly manner.
