Class Experience

Beginner Level
This treble clef note reading class is perfect for learners who have never read music before, or are looking for a refresher. The note reading confidence they'll build can then be applied to any instrument that reads in treble clef (Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Violin, Piano, etc). Each lesson we'll look at a different aspect of reading notes on the treble staff. We'll practice what we've learned in written activities. Each activity will build on what we've learned during previous lessons, so learners can build confidence reading music.

Lesson 1 - Introduction to Line Notes and Space Notes
- We'll discuss tips and tricks for reading line notes and space notes within the staff

Lesson 2 - Introduction to Note Names on the Staff
- We'll discuss the note names within the treble staff and go over tips and tricks for reading them.

Lesson 3 - Introduction to Ledger Lines
- We'll discuss tips and tricks for reading notes that extend either above or below the treble staff

Lesson 4 - Introduction to Sharps and Flats
- We'll discuss how sharps and flats affect note reading

Lesson 5 - Introduction to Naturals and Final Review
-We'll discuss how natural signs can affect note reading.

Learning Goals

Students can expect to feel more confident in reading notes in treble clef.

Master's Degree in Music from California State University, Long Beach
Bachelor's Degree in Music from University of Hartford
I hold a Master's Degree in Oboe Performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of music at California State University, Long Beach. At the Cole Conservatory I had the privilege of studying oboe and English horn with Carolyn Hove. My Bachelor's Degree, also in Oboe Performance, is from the Hartt School of Music of the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut. While there I studied with oboist Humbert Lucarelli.

I have extensive experience teaching private and group lessons, including lessons in Oboe, Piano, English Horn, Reed Making, and Music Theory. My students have gone on to win scholarships and place in honor orchestras across the country. I am also a current member of MTAC (Music Teacher's Association of California), and my students are eligible to complete their Certificate of Merit program.

Locally, I have performed with the Dana Point Symphony, Symphony Irvine, as well as other groups around Southern California. Previously, I was a long time member of the Cheshire Symphony.
