Welcome to Part 2 of our First Grade Reading and Writing course, where young learners embark on a journey to become confident readers and writers. Course Highlights: *Advancing Phonics Skills: Dive deeper into phonics by exploring blends, digraphs, and vowel teams, helping learners decode more complex words with confidence. *Strengthening Fluency Reading Word Families, CVC and CVCe Words: Expand mastery of word families, consonant- vowel-consonant (CVC) and consonant-vowel-consonant-e (CVCe) patterns to build fluency and enhance reading comprehension. *Building High-Frequency Vocabulary: Continue practicing essential high-frequency words to improve word recognition and support early literacy success. *Interactive Reading Adventures: Read engaging stories tailored to the target sounds, promoting comprehension and a love of reading. *Creative Writing and Sentence Construction: Write sentences using the day’s target sounds and practice organizing ideas, fostering strong writing foundations. *Confidence Through Sharing: Learners will share their written work and ideas with the group, building communication skills and self-expression. *Hands-On and Interactive Learning: Participate in fun, collaborative activities, creative exercises, and group discussions that make learning exciting. *Aligned with Academic Standards: Lessons are designed to meet Common Core standards, ensuring a structured and enriching educational experience. Class Structure: Welcome and warm-up activities Introduce and practice the phonics focus of the day (blends, digraphs, vowel teams, etc.) Review and practice high-frequency words Read simple, engaging stories aligned with the target sounds Writing activity: create sentences and label drawings based on the lesson focus Share work and discuss as a group Closing and goodbyes This second part of our ELA course builds on foundational skills from Part 1, guiding learners to advance their reading, writing, and phonics abilities while fostering creativity and a lifelong love for literacy. Teachers will gently guide and prompt learners to work out new or difficult sounds. Repetition will help solidify the target sounds and fluency. Learners will be encouraged to read in choral reading format (all reading at the same time) to minimize downtime. Reading comprehension will be advanced by engaging, open-ended questions and discussions. Learners will be encouraged to share their work but not obliged. PDF copies of the lesson will be available 24 hours prior to the lesson start to print. Learners may bring them to class to read and write with, or they may use a notebook, paper, or whiteboard.
Learning Goals
Develop Foundational Phonics Skills: Learners will identify and apply phonics rules, including blends and vowel teams, to improve their ability to decode and read words.
Enhance Reading Fluency: Students will practice reading aloud with accuracy and expression, building confidence and fluency in their reading abilities.
