This is a very engaging, fun, and interactive class for learners who are just starting out with learning sight words and learning how to read. Attention spans of younger children are shorter so to keep students engaged, I like to offer shorter classes. Moreover, your learner will love and look forward to this class and they will have a great time learning without really realizing that they are learning. This class focuses on learning how to read through phonics and repetition. Note: This is an ongoing class. Learners can take the class as their schedule permits. Each week's discussion is independent of previous weeks' discussions, so learners may come and go as needed. How will this class flow? This class is fun and interactive. Each class will focus on the following: Alphabet Letters and Sounds High Frequency Sight Words Fluency Activities To give a layout of the class, here is a list of what is covered in the first few weeks of class: Week of June 17: The letter A and Sight Words I and Like Week of June 24: The letter B and Sight Words My and See Week of July 1: The letter C and Sight Words Can and The Week of July 8: The letter D and Sight Words Go and Hat Teacher and learners will move through material in different ways to include use of a Google Slides/PowerPoint presentation. ***Microphones will be muted at different times during the learning session.*** This is not to silence students, but to ensure a quality learning experience. What words will be covered in each class? What is the agenda for each class? Ice Breaker and Establishing Rules/Expectations (5 minutes) Read-A-Long (15 minutes) Wrap-up and Teacher Feedback (5 minutes) What will the learner walk away with after each class? The learner should walk away after each class feeling more confident with the content and material learned in class. The learner should also be able to demonstrate a complete understanding of the sight words learned by being able to read the sentences provided thoroughly and with very little effort. How should the learner prepare for this class? Learners should come to this class relaxed and ready to have fun. This is a no-pressure, but interactive class where we learn about phonics and sight words. Learners should also be in a space free from distractions and outside noise. I want to create a nice and relaxing vibe and mood for this class to encourage all participants to be free in their learning and free to move around if they'd like to. Refund Policy: I use the Refund Policy for my classes. You must cancel within the allotted time by Outschool to get a refund for this class. If the system does not automatically initiate a refund for you on your end when you cancel and/or withdraw, then this means that you have canceled outside of the allotted time and unfortunately no refund or credit will be granted under any circumstance. Additionally, students must arrive to sessions on time. A session will be canceled without a refund and a future date makeup session will not be scheduled for students that arrive late to class. Students must arrive no later than 10 minutes after the start of class time or the class will be canceled and no refund and/or credit will be granted. Additionally, class/tutoring sessions will not be extended if your learner does not arrive on time for the session. We will cover as much as we possibly can during the allotted time including the time missed for arriving to class late. Transfer Policy: A transfer request may only be made 48 hours prior to the start of your learner’s scheduled session. Learners may only transfer a registration one time and after this time, all registration dates and times are final. In special circumstances after the first transfer has occurred, you may have the option of transferring to another section. You must enroll in a new section first and you will only be refunded for the originally scheduled section if the originally scheduled section if someone takes your slot in the originally scheduled section. You will only receive a refund after you have attended the newly scheduled section. No-Show and Late Policy: Refunds and/or transfers will not be given for no-shows and/or being late. Additionally, learners who arrive late will only be tutored for the remaining time left in their section.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a former English & Language Arts (ELA) tutor/teacher assistant for grades K-5 and a current high school teacher. I see so many students that are not where they need to be when it comes to reading in high school. I think a great deal of this comes from not having that strong foundation that is needed in elementary school/younger ages.
I believe that reading is fundamental. I want students to develop a love for reading. Students should read because they love to and want to, not because they have to.
This is why I am passionate about teaching students how to read because it is important not just in school, but in life period.
