Protect Your Voice: A Guide to Vocal Care for Singers

In this one time group class, students who love to sing will learn the basics of vocal science, how to care for their voice, and explore various ways of improving vocal health through discussion and demonstration with several exercises.

Students will receive a PDF will Healthy Habits For A Healthy Voice tips in addition to links to some vocal exercise and vocal education videos that students can practice personally alongside of after the class ends.

Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
In this one time class students will learn about: 

1. Vocal terms, vocal anatomy, and the basics of voice science
2. The importance of developing healthy vocal habits while we're young
3. How to recognize if something is not right during or after singing 
4. How to best use and also care for their voice as a singer
5. Tips and tricks to improve both the singing and speaking voice 

Students will demonstrate and practice to show comprehension: 

1. Vocal register differences / exercises
2. Vocal compression differences / exercises
3. Posture / facial movements  

Students will also have the ability to ask questions about their voice or something singers they listen to do that they don't understand or etc.... Then at the end they will each receive a PDF download and links after class for further guidance on maintaining vocal care and exercising the voice.

Parental Guidance
I will be show students a few drawn diagrams of the diaphragm, larynx, mouth/ nasal cavity of the face etc...when we discuss the science of how our voice works. We will discuss what vocal nodes and or voice hemorrhages are, but I will not be showing pictures in this class, I will just describe vocal damage briefly and how it can happen. Everything else is taught in a calm, happy, and engaging way.

*Professional Summary* 

Anne Martin began her career as a singing at the age of 13, recorded 3 CD's before her 21st birthday and has sung in several professional choirs, musical theater productions, and special events in multiple states across the US over the course of the last 25 years. She graduated with a degree in Music with a focus in Voice, and has been teaching music for over 10 years, both privately and in the Florida Public Schools.  

Since earning her degree, she has also received the Voice Teacher Certification from New York Vocal Coaching after training 50 hours with renowned founder Justin Stoney. 

She currently resides in Florida and has appeared twice at the Tampa Bay Rays stadium to sing the National Anthem, has been in productions at both Manatee and Sarasota Players Theaters, was a member of Sarasota's professional Choral Artists, and in 2021 sang in Epcot's Candlelight Processional at Walt Disney World. 

 In addition to those solo endeavors, she has been singing around the state for special events with her husband since 2018 and they are known as "The Martin Duo".  They work as voice-over artists for Worldbook where she can be heard voicing several characters for children's graphic novel audiobooks.
