This sight-singing,  ear-training course was designed to help young singers progress in their ability to read sheet music, correctly match pitch, harmonize, and also pass any auditions for programs that require sight-reading. 

This 8 week course will teach you how to follow both visual and audio guides to match pitch, read sheet music, and improve your overall vocal abilities as a music artist. 

Introduction to solfeggio, Kodaly, alongside visual and audio guides. 

Let's Start At The Very Beginning...Do- Re- Mi...

We learn about "The Movable Do" and how to follow it through key changes using sheet music and starting notes as a guide.  

Reading Solfeggio Notation and Sheet Music 

Ear-training is practiced live through call and response style activities. Students will copy vocal sounds, piano notes heard, interval steps and skips, Octaves, Thirds, and Fifths. 

Ear-training, Intervals and Matching Pitch 

Learning how to read and sing Treble Clef notes by name on The Grand Staff.

Treble Clef Versus The Movable Do

Sight-Singing and Ear-training exercises and practice with live assistance and feedback using Solfeggio and treble clef sheet music. 

Practicing With Visual Guides 

Students will pracitice hearing and singing specific notes heard out of a played chord, key, or scale.   Introduction and practice of harmony will also be taught. 

Practicing With Audio Guides

Student will share a favorite "style" of music they like to sing, and the teacher will pick a song in that style that they do not know, or do not know well, and have them attempt to sing it with sheet music and audio prompts. 

Sight-Singing and Ear-training Practice with an Unknown Song

In this final lesson students will be assessed in the way they would be in a middle school or high school competition.  They will receive a final grade on their abilities to accurately sing solfeggio exercises, a short excerpt of the song practice the week before, and their ability to hear and match notes correctly.  Written feedback will be provided as well.

Sight-Singing and Ear-Training 101: 8 Week Music Theory Course for Singers

In these 1-1 ongoing music theory lessons, students will learn the fundamental rudiments of music theory. These lessons cover the topics needed to prepare students for the theory exams of The Royal Conservatory of Music. (No Exams Required)
