US Grade Kindergarten - 1
This ongoing class is designed to help learners practice phonics skills and build reading fluency. Each class will have the same general format but will cover a different phonics skill (digraphs, trigraphs, diphthongs, blends, prefixes, and suffixes). Learners who will be successful in this class already know all of their letter sounds, are able to write all of their letters independently to form words, and have started to practice blending sounds to read words. Class structure: Welcome *Warm up (activity: word ladders/build a word using word families) *Introduce and teach phonics sound of the week: A new phonics sounds will be introduced to learners using a mini-lesson that follows the I do, you do, we do format. I will introduce the sound, we will practice saying the sound together, we will practice reading words with the new sound together, and then learners will practice reading words with the new sound on their own. *Meaningful reading passage that utilizes our sound of the week with comprehension questions *Writing practice: Learners will practice writing words that use our target sound as well as a sentence related to our reading passage. *Goodbye/Exit Ticket: Learners will read a list of words with our target sound for fluency practice. Phonics sounds will be introduced and taught directly and then learners will be given opportunities to practice applying their knowledge of each new phonics concept throughout the remainder of the lesson. Supply List
Learners will need a printed copy of our class handout as well as a pencil to write with during class. The class handout will be available as an attachment in the classroom upon enrollment.

I have an Associates of Arts degree in Elementary Education and a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Social Studies Education. I am certified to teach Social Studies in grades 6-12. Additionally, I have my TESOL certification.
I have been a 12th grade teacher, a 10th grade teacher, and most recently a Lead Teacher in a pre-school where I exclusively worked with 3, 4, and 5 year olds. I taught at the pre-school for three years with a focus on fostering the development of early literacy and math skills. I've been a teacher on Outschool since the Summer of 2020. During that time I've continuously taught my Sight Word Swing Level 1 and 2 classes, my Writer's Workshop class, and done private tutoring.
