Class Experience

US Grade 2
This is an ongoing course for second graders, or students at the second grade reading level, who would like to improve reading fluency and comprehension. Students will be encouraged to read aloud during the class and engage in discussions about the text. Because each class does not build upon previous ones, students can "pop in" and "pop out" as needed. We will read a different text each class.

Small class size (1-4 learners only) will ensure plenty of attention for learners!

The types of text read in this class will be narratives (stories) and informational text.

Reading classes will always begin with introductions and greetings between the teacher and student(s). If the class has a topic, concept or theme, it will be introduced at the start of the class.

Next, students will read the text aloud. This will usually include a reading strategy called choral reading when there are multiple learners. Throughout the text, the teacher will initiate discussions about the text, focusing on understanding, comprehension, and critical thinking.

Students will be encouraged to make predictions and inferences. Students will summarize the text, make connections with the text and learn about context clues. We will also examine the main idea, theme, topic, and details of a text, as well as text evidence and visual clues. Students will learn about characters, character traits, and feelings.

👋 About Me:
Hi! I'm Ms. Ashley! I am a homeschool mom of five wonderful kids. My oldest three children are girls, and my youngest are twin boys. We live on the shoreline of Connecticut. I love the beach, but I hope to one day live on a big piece of land with a big vegetable garden, lots of fruit trees and a shady tree to read books under. My favorite hobby is traveling because I enjoy discovering new places, learning about different cultures, meeting new people, but most of all - making core memories with my children. I'd love to visit all 50 states and all 195 countries! I also enjoy reading, a good cup of coffee and video games.

🏫 Teaching Philosophy and Teaching Style:
My love for teaching stems back to my childhood. While most kids ask for toys or games for Christmas, I was the 8-year-old asking for a laminator and school supplies to use when I played "school". My parents let me turn half of our basement into a realistic "classroom", where I had real student desks, a chalkboard, a circle time rug, learning posters, bulletin boards and all the other things I might need to "teach" my "students" aka - my little sisters.

As a teacher today, I truly value each and every student, and I hope to help them to find a love of learning. My teaching philosophy is centered around fostering a love of learning in every student. I believe that education should be an exciting and joyful experience, and my primary goal is to create a classroom environment where students are excited to come to class and eager to discover new things.

In my classroom, I aim to create a supportive and inclusive space where students feel encouraged to take risks, ask questions, and explore their interests. I use interactive activities, hands-on learning, and creative problem-solving to make lessons enjoyable and meaningful.

Ultimately, my goal is not just to teach academic skills, but to instill in my students a lifelong love of learning. When students enjoy the process of discovery and feel confident in their abilities, they become motivated, independent learners who are excited about their future.

👋 About Me:
Hi, I'm Esther, a homeschool mom of five from Southern Ontario. I love the homesteading lifestyle, especially the process of gardening, preserving, canning, and freeze-drying our harvests. We also have 45 chickens that keep us busy! When I’m not working on the homestead, I enjoy taking vacations, going camping and exploring new places with my family.

🏫 Teaching Philosophy and Teaching Style:
My teaching style is centered around curiosity, exploration, and learning from mistakes. I believe that developing new skills is a lifelong journey, which is why I encourage my students to embrace challenges and view mistakes as opportunities for growth. In my own homeschool, I make it a priority for my children to learn a new skill every year, whether it's guitar, Spanish, or knotting. By fostering a love for learning and a mindset of persistence, I aim to inspire my students to be lifelong learners who are driven by curiosity.

I often took the lead in helping my siblings and peers with their school work. Thinking back, this is likely the foundation of my desire to pursue education. In high school, you could often catch me tutoring History and English. If I found someone struggling with concepts, comprehension, or timelines, I would jump at the opportunity to help.

In 2007, I started my undergraduate studies at Georgia Southern University. During my undergraduate tenure, I became a hired tutor through my alma mater for English, Philosophy, and History with a focus on Pre-K through College curriculum. In 2017 I started my journey remote teaching English as a Second Language full time to children and adults all over the world.

👋 About Me:
My love for learning and teaching extends beyond academics. In addition to teaching, I spent several years studying canine behavior and helping people better bond with their pets, service, and working companions. You can often find me with my 5 children and partner of 17 years on our small homestead. I enjoy the outdoors, the fiber arts, and, most of all, the look on a students face when a concept of a lesson "clicks!"

🏫 Teaching Philosophy and Teaching Style:
I utilize a combination of student centered, holistic, and humanistic approaches. I truly believe that learning is not suspended to just the class. Things that happen in our lives and our feelings shape how we retain the information being shared and taught. I start each class by checking in with them, finding out their likes and dislikes. Each student should feel heard and have the ability to express their thoughts and doing this helps shape that foundation.

Being student centered is absolutely pivotal in my teaching style. Meeting my students where they are at is essential so I can assess their foundation and see where I may need to bridge gaps and support them better.

👋 About Me:
Hello, I am Teacher Nancy! I live in Texas but have traveled extensively in the US and around the world. Employment opportunities have sent me to Cyprus and Dominican Republic as well working with colleagues from Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Israel, China, and India. My love of cultures was fostered in my degrees in sociology, language studies (Spanish, French, and Mandarin), and even my current pastimes. I enjoy watching Korean dramas and listening to K-Pop artists, especially BTS. I also love to create art. Whether painting a canvas or sketching on paper, I always have a project underway.

🏫 Teaching Philosophy and Teaching Style:
I teach the child in front of me where they are that day. And no learning can happen without some connection and relationship between student and teacher. I try my best to help the student feel comfortable and secure in my class. Then he or she is willing to take risks, and that is when learning happens.

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” - William Butler Yeats. “

👋 About Me:
It's so nice to meet you! I'm Clarissa and I live in Ontario, Canada. I've been teaching online for over 5 years now and have taught close to 3000 classes. In addition to teaching, I am also a self-taught professional photographer. Over the past few years, I've gained experience in portrait, wedding & event photography. My love for learning and teaching reaches beyond the academic realm. I also help host and call ceilidh dances several times a year. I love helping and guiding students in the learning process and I find it so rewarding to watch learners find joy in mastering a skill they thought they couldn't do well in. I grew up in a household of sisters (I am the oldest of four!) and we love to host dances & volunteer in our young adult community. I also serve as a member of my church's Young Adult Leadership Team. Other interests include: going on long walks, reading, flower pressing, embroidery, & drinking a lot of coffee!

🏫 Teaching Philosophy and Teaching Style:
I believe the teacher’s role is to be a mentor and guide to students, offering them direct support, modelling excellence and encouraging them in the right direction. The famous educator Charlotte Mason would often refer to the idea of spreading a "feast" for children - meaning that a teacher's responsibility is to offer a rich selection of books, ideas, & materials that ignite new interests and pique a child's appetite for learning. She stated that we must "install [in children] in a very rich and glorious kingdom, to bring a continual holiday to their doors, exquisitely served”

As Charlotte Mason also advocated, I believe that "children are born persons", meaning that even young learners have their own individual needs, desires and unique temperaments. I believe every child should be spoken to kindly and with respect for the good work that they do. Just as adults are hired to do work by employees, a child's "work" is his or her education in the formative years of life. As such, as a teacher I make an effort to thank my students for their hard work, attention and diligence in my classes.

I strive to be a warm, understanding and encouraging teacher. Since students have different learning styles, I believe that children should progress at their own pace and should not be afraid to make mistakes as they learn and grow.

I aim to foster an atmosphere of trust where students feel at ease and excited to succeed. I look forward to getting to know your student and be a part of their learning journey!

👋: About Me:
Hello! I am Britni Ordowski. I like to go by Mrs. Ordowski or Mrs. O. Some fun information about me is that I have 2 children and I have lived 30 minutes from the beaches in Florida and 2o minutes from the Rocky Mountains in Utah. I am from the USA and live on the east coast currently. I left the traditional classroom to become a stay at home mom for my two children. I love to spend time with them at home or at playgrounds as a family when I am not teaching.

🏫 Teaching Philosophy and Teaching Style:
I have felt called to be an elementary teacher since I was in elementary school myself. I completed an Early Childhood program in high school where I got certified to work with preschool age children. I then went to college and became certified to be an elementary teacher where we worked collaboratively, had fun, and encouraged one another to reach our goals. I love to teach my students and enjoy seeing them learn new skills and get excited about learning! I believe in scaffolding each child and providing the support they need to thrive. I am so thankful to be able to teach on here and touch the lives of more children to help them learn and grow too!
