1 hour per week. I will send home a word list to review with your learner. These words are the specific tricky words that the learner should review at home to improve mastery. Your child should read the list of words in isolation and within the story at the end of the review sheet.

Class Experience

US Grade 1
Beginner Level
Let's develop a good foundation in reading!
This class is perfect for learners who are just beginning their reading journey. We will read simple sentences such as "Pop got on the mat." This class is great for kids who are just starting to read simple words on their own. If they need more challenge, I will adjust the lesson based on their reading ability.
We will focus on phonemic awareness and phonics skills in a fun and engaging way. By the end of each class, the learner will read a decodable book with help from the teacher.

Here's what we cover:
* Phonemic awareness (isolating first, middle, and last sounds; rhymes)
* Synthetic phonics
* Decoding techniques
* Sight words
* Vocabulary

Class structure:
We will start by reviewing phonemes, focusing on voiced and unvoiced sounds. We will listen to words and practice identifying the individual phonemes in the word. We will listen for rhyming words. We will clap the syllables in a word. We will play with words by adding, deleting, or substituting sounds to make new words. We will then practice sight words. We will review some vocabulary words by looking at both the pronunciation and meaning. Finally, we will put our skills to the test by reading a short story.

My teaching style:
I use the Science of Reading approach and the Orton-Gillingham method of teaching reading. I will use colorful and playful animations on the screen to guide the students through the activities. I believe students learn even quicker while using their hands so that they can follow along with my hand movements. They can also draw on the screen if they know how to use the Zoom annotate feature.

Learner interaction:
Students will have 1-on-1 interactions with me so they can ask questions and share their ideas at any time in class.

Required knowledge:
None required

Schedule: I teach 50 1:1 classes each week. I open spots every day in the mornings and also after school. My schedule can fill quickly, so please book early to secure your place.

Cancellation policy:
I follow Outschool's standard cancellation and refund policy:
You can cancel or reschedule a future meeting by going to the classroom and clicking on Meetings.
The system will issue a refund if you cancel within 24 hours of the Sunday auto-renewal date.
You will not receive a refund if you cancel after Sunday's auto-renewal.
You can reschedule a class up to 48 hours before the meeting.

These shorter 1:1 lessons can be taken up to 16 times. After the 16th class, it will be time to graduate from the class and transition to a different class, listed below.
