We will practice phonological awareness skills such as rhyming, segmenting, and blending! Then we will begin to decode and blend words. We will read an emergent reader together using our new skills!

Class experience

US Grade 1
Beginner Level
Students will learn basic phonemes.
Students will learn various phonemic awareness skills.
Students will learn sight words and high-frequency words.
Students will learn to recognize words in a sentence.
I received a certificate for IMSE's Phonological Awareness course based on Orton-Gillingham.
I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.
I received my Teacher Certificate in Idaho in 2011, which allowed me to teach Reading/Writing for 7th and 12th grade for 2 years.
I received my TESOL certificate and taught ESL for 5 years.
No supplies, but you can bring a pop-it toy for beginner CVC blending if applicable.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Feel free to share any preferences beforehand—whether it's avoiding magic or spooky themes. Some books might feature fight scenes, dinosaurs, or monsters. I'll give you a heads-up a week before introducing a new book, allowing you to review it and ensure it aligns with your child's comfort.
We will use Google slides on a screen share, so you do not need your own account.
We will be reading decodable books from Half Pint Kids.
