I believe children learn to play an instrument if they enjoy it and part of that is being able to play a recognisable song. In this beginner series of lessons students will learn the notes required to play well known songs. The emphasis in the beginner classes is on learning the song, look out for the next level (Play That Tune - Theory and practice) for guidance in reading music and more advanced songs. It is recommended that learners have completed at least one class at level 1 before joining this class or be familiar with playing B A G and at least one simple tune such as Hot Cross Buns. We will begin with introductions to each other and today's song; Old MacDonald had a farm. We will sing the song together, with each learner choosing an animal for the farm. The students will follow the instruction of the teacher and a colourful on screen presentation to learn how to play the melody line by line. Notes will be taught if necessary and we will discuss the note lengths and rhythm as we play. Every learner will be heard individually and as a group, so the teacher can be sure that all learners have understood and can complete the tasks. Please note: playing an instrument can take time and practice. This class will teach the techniques and notes required for the tune. Some learners will have a natural ability, however for most it will take practice after class.
Learning Goals
Different learners will gain different things depending on previous knowledge and experience. Some will learn to play new notes and learn about different note lengths. For others, it will be an opportunity to practice and improve their skills.
