Class Experience

This introductory Recorder Camp will be fun and engaging! Learners interested in learning to play an instrument, reading music on the Treble Clef Staff, preparing to play another instrument in Beginning Band, or just learning something new will enjoy this Music Class.

This Camp is five consecutive days and by the final class they will be able to test for their White Belt! It is my goal that learners will leave this class excited to learn more! If a learner needs to miss a lesson during this camp, they will be able to continue by watching the video of the lesson they missed and practicing just as if they were in the class live.

CAMP SCHEDULE

Class 1: Meet and Greet | Introduction to the Recorder | Care of the Recorder
Class 2: Treble Clef Staff | Posture | Breath Support | How to Hold Recorder | First Note 'B'
Class 3: Whole Note & Rest, Half Note, Quarter Note | Notes 'A' and 'G'
Class 4: Steps to Learn A Song | White Belt Song: "Hot Cross Buns"
Class 5: What Makes A Good Performance | White Belt Test Day! | Sight-Reading

Any Recorder will do for this class, but I've linked several I would recommend in the Materials section below.

By the conclusion of this class, learners will be able to read music notation on the Treble Clef Staff, play the music that they read on the Recorder, and will be working their way toward learning to play a wind instrument independently! This is a great class for students interested in pursuing a traditional Band Instrument!

I teach other Music Classes and Camps for Voice, Piano and the Recorder that I'm sure your learner would love as well! Visit my Profile Page or message me to learn more.

Tips For A Successful Class

1. It is important to see learners' faces and hands during the class. Learners should be seated in a chair for class and have their camera able to capture them from the head to the top of the seat. I will be able to offer learners feedback on the use of their hands/fingers this way during the lesson.

2. Please ensure to have all Materials ready prior to starting class. Learners will need a Baroque Soprano Recorder, White Board or Blank Paper, Dry Erase Marker and/or Pencil, and Handouts (Provided in the Outschool Classroom the day prior to class beginning).

3. At times, learners will need to write. Please make sure your space is equipped for this to be possible with a table, desk, or something hard to write on.

4. Ensure learners are in a quiet space to allow them to hear the teacher and stay engaged.

Maryland Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Hello Outschool Families! I’m a certified educator in the USA. I've been teaching on Outschool for several years now and have loved establishing relationships with learners and their families. I've been teaching the Piano for 17 years and teaching a variety of other Performing Arts subjects since graduating with my degree in Music Education in 2009.

Music has been a passion of mine since I was a child. I grew up in a musical family, sang in church and school, began piano lessons in first grade, was in several musicals, was in the band where I played the flute and piccolo, and lead music at my church on the worship team. I am passionate about students and education! I've included my credentials and experience below.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
- Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education
- State Certified Teacher
- Instruments: Piano, Voice, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone and Percussion

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
- Private Instruction for 17 years
- Public Elementary School Music Teacher for 12 years
- Public Middle School Performing Arts Teacher for 2 years
- Summer Camps (Church and Public Performing Arts)

CLASSES TAUGHT
I've taught a variety of subjects, but my favorite are Performing Arts Classes. I've taken my Choirs to perform at Disney World and have directed Musicals in Elementary Schools and Middle Schools including, Jungle Book Kids and Beauty and the Beast Junior. Below are just selection of classes I have experience teaching.

- Choir/Chorus (in person)
- Beginning Band (in person)
- Voice Lessons (in person/online)
- Piano Lessons (in person/online)
- Musical Theater (in person)
- Orff Ensemble (in person)
- Recorder (in person/online)
- Group Piano Classes (in person/online)

I believe it’s important to be a life long learner and that’s why Outschool is so awesome. This platform allows learners to hone in on a specific subject, learn more about what they’re interested in, or discover their talent in the fine arts developing students into well rounded individuals! My goal is that every learner and family leaves my class feeling their time was well spent!

I look forward to getting to know you and hope our time together will leave a lasting impact!
