Intermediate Level
Elevate from rookie to rock star in this level two recorder course. Building upon the Recorder Rookies curriculum, learners will develop ensemble based skills in this semester length course which is focused on playing and performing recorder repertoire across a variety of musical genres. This course is broken down into five units which introduce a wide range of recorder repertoire. Each unit introduces recorder repertoire from a different musical genre with the final unit preparing students for an exciting virtual recital experience. 🍎 What Will Be Taught This is a performance and playing focused class where learners will focus on expanding their recorder skills to be the best they can be! The curriculum for this part two course is designed to strengthen music reading skills, rhythm fundamentals and refine musicianship. 🎶 Topics Covered Learners will try music from a variety of genres and even have the opportunity to try playing the alto recorder if interested. ❓How Is This Class Different from Recorder Rookies? While Recorder Rookies was designed to lay the foundation for learning an instrument, Recorder Rock Stars will transition students into the rehearsal and ensemble experience where they'll be learning longer, more complex songs and techniques for recorder playing. 🏫 Class Structure This class meets weekly for 40 minutes for a full semester (22 weeks). A typical rehearsal is structured as follows... -Mini Lesson/Introduction (5 Minutes) -Sectional + Practice Time (15 Minutes) -Rehearsal (20 Minutes) The final day of the class is a virtual recital where learners will showcase their favorite ensemble pieces in a performance for their peers. 🙋🏽 Teacher-Student and Learner Interaction During rehearsals learners will be expected to participate by raising hands before speaking however learners are given more freedom to interact and discuss rehearsal strategies during practice and sectional time. 🧠 Prerequisites Learners are strongly encouraged to complete the Recorder Rookies curriculum with a final grade of M or E (see more on my profile) before joining this level two course however, learners with prior recorder playing experience and/or private lessons may be eligible to participate. Please contact Miss Suzanne if you'd like to have your child audition for participation eligibility in this class.
