*** Calling all Kindergarteners and 1st Graders!! *** In this ongoing class, students will recognize and name numbers from 1 to 120. This class meets once a week. The classes do not build upon each other so you are welcome to join anytime. *** This class is ESL-friendly. *** ***** BACKGROUND ***** Number recognition is a foundational math skill. Students must be able to fluently recognize and name numbers before they can master other math skills such as addition and subtraction. This course gives students practice in becoming more fluent with number recognition. ***** CLASS OVERVIEW ***** Each week, students will practice naming numbers between 1 and 120. Students will do a variety of fun activities and games to practice their number recognition. There will be a different theme each week as students review the numbers. This class is a good fit for students who … - Have previous exposure to the numbers 1 to 120 - Need practice in naming the numbers 1 to 120 - Are excited to play number games In this class, we DO NOT … - Introduce the numbers - Learn numbers past 120 ***** CLASS BREAKDOWN ***** Each week, students will do a variety of activities to practice their number recognition. This class is full of interactive games and activities to keep students engaged and learning at the same time. ** Number Check ** In each class, students will do a number check. I will show a variety of numbers. Students will say the numbers. ** Number Activity ** Students will do a number activity. Students will complete an activity that involves both number recognition and writing the numbers. This activity will vary each week. Some of the activities will include Number Search, Number Scramble, etc. ** Number Game ** Students will play a number game. They will play a different number game each week. During the game, students will name the numbers. *********************************************************************** ***** WEEKLY THEMES ***** Each week will have a different theme. If you are unable to print the handouts, please have your learner bring a few pieces of paper to class. ** AFTER CLASS ** I will post a pdf attachment with many different activities for students to do at home. You can do one page, a few pages, or all the pages. These pages will help students to continue practicing the numbers throughout the week. ************************************************************************** ***** COMMON CORE STANDARDS COVERED IN THIS CLASS ***** ** CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.NBTA.1 ** Count to 120, starting at any number less than 120. Parental Guidance
Some of the optional packet activities include cut and glue activities. Students will be using scissors for these activities. Students need to be observed and may need some assistance when using the scissors. Most glue is not gluten-free and is not editable. Students should not place glue in their mouth.
