Class Experience

This ongoing class will cover an introduction to multiplication & division using a fun magic theme. My classroom is based on a fun, comfortable environment where everyone is encouraged to ask questions, make connections, and interact with each other. I use a variety of fluency activities, word problems, drawing, and using household items/theme related items to show math concepts. Students are always welcome to use hands-on manipulatives and/or objects from around the home to engage in their math lessons while having fun. When possible I will give ideas of things that can be used to show a math concept using objects that connect to our theme.

If you are not sure what level math your child is ready for please consider a 1:1 math assessment. Anyone enrolled for at least 4 consecutive weeks will also be provided with a free math assessment to have their child complete 3x/year if they wish.

Learning Goals

Understand equal groups as multiplication. Relate multiplication to the array model. Interpret the meaning of factors—the size of the group or the number of groups. Understand the meaning of the unknown as the size of the group in division. Understand the meaning of the unknown as the number of groups in division. Interpret the unknown in division using the array model.
