Beginner Level
In this math course, students will learn a new foundational skill for solving multiplication and division word problems. Students will be taught how to utilize the strategies of: Base 10, expanded form, repeated subtraction and addition, equal groups, and arrays. These strategies can be applied to both multiplication and division word problems and will help students better understand the foundations of multiplication and division which will better prepare them for more advanced word problems in the future. In each class meeting, students will be given many opportunities to share out their thought process and interact with classmates to solve word problems. Each class is also designed using the gradual release model which provides students with high support from the teacher in the beginning of the lesson and students are able to preform tasks more independently by the end of the lesson. Topics for Classes: Week 1: Multiplication Repeated Addition Week 2: Multiplication With Arrays Week 3: Multiplication With Base 10 Week 4: Multiplication With Equal Groups Week 5: Multiplication With Expanded Form Week 6: Division With Repeated Subtraction Week 7: Division With Arrays Week 8: Division With Equal Groups Week 9: Division With Fact Families Week 10: Introduction to Remainders in Division (Using Arrays) Week 11: The Associative and Commutative Properties of Multiplication Week 12: The Distributive Property of Multiplication Week 13: Identifying the Associative, Commutative, and Distributive Properties

Students will use the factors in a multiplication equation to draw arrays and multiply with accuracy. 45 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Multiplication With Base 10
Students will learn how to draw base 10 blocks to create a visual representation to help them multiply. 45 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Multiplication With Equal Groups
Students will use the factors of a multiplication equation to draw equal groups and multiply with ease. 45 mins online live lesson

Supply List
Students must bring a paper and pencil or a whiteboard and marker to class. No calculators are allowed.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
