Class experience
US Grade 3 - 6
In this four week, 12 session summer review camp, learners will gain an understanding of multiplication and division, the relationship between the two, how real math works using manipulatives, arrays, songs, movement, skip counting and stories in this fun, engaging camp. The goal of this Math camp is to help each learner understand the math that they see. Learners learn much easier using visual and kinesthetic methods that are represented by 3-D manipulatives, blocks, cubes, legos, and coins...
Learners will: ○ gain a clear understanding of how multiplication and division work ○ understand the relation between multiplication and division ○ learn the mathematical vocabulary associated with these operations ○ learn the multiplication and division facts ○ gain confidence ○ have a clear understanding of fundamentals of arrays [rows, columns] ○ retell mathematical stories ○ have fun trying to figure out 10 different math riddles ○ enjoy math
Being an educator for forty + years, I've taught all subjects to students K-8 which included math classes at all levels. I've taught special needs students and designed full curriculum for K-12 students. In addition, I have taught students online for seven years. When I was a young student, I thought I didn't like math because it was hard for me. The truth was, I didn't understand the fundamentals of math, even though I could calculate and get the right answers. This is why I am so passionate about learners understanding the concept and relationship to numbers and operations, because once they understand that, learners will excel in Math and really begin to love it as I do now.
