Homework
1-2 hours per week. Each week, students will complete photography assignments to practice in various locations and conditions outside of our live class. At the beginning of every session, we’ll dedicate time for learners to share their photos taken during the week. Homework images can be uploaded to the Outschool classroom before class or shared via webcam during the live Zoom session. Learners will receive constructive feedback on all images presented in class, helping them improve their skills and creativity.

Intermediate - Advanced Level
In Level 2 Camera Settings: DSLR or Mirrorless Cameras, students will advance their manual mode skills by mastering the balance of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO in a variety of challenging lighting and movement situations. This course is designed to take students beyond the basics, providing in-depth instruction and hands-on practice in low-light settings, motion photography, and exposure troubleshooting. Learners will gain confidence in using manual mode for all types of photography, including creative shots with depth of field and action scenes. Weekly assignments allow students to apply what they've learned and receive individualized feedback to improve their skills.

This course requires a camera that allows you to adjust all three settings (DSLR, mirrorless, or select point-and-shoot models). Unsure if your camera qualifies? Just ask!

This course builds on foundational manual mode skills, helping students refine their techniques and apply them to more advanced photography situations.

Lesson 1:
Reviewing Manual Settings & Troubleshooting Exposures
 Students will review key manual mode concepts and troubleshoot common issues in overexposure and underexposure. We'll dive deeper into exposure compensation and practice getting the right balance in difficult lighting situations.

Lesson 2:
Advanced Aperture Techniques for Depth & Focus
 Learners will explore how to use aperture creatively for depth of field, focusing on how to control sharpness and blur in images. We’ll also cover aperture priority and when to use it.

Lesson 3:
Mastering Motion with Shutter Speed
 This week, students will focus on advanced shutter speed techniques to freeze fast action or create intentional motion blur. We’ll explore creative uses for capturing moving subjects and panning techniques.

Lesson 4:
ISO Mastery for Low Light Photography
 Students will learn how to handle low light conditions using ISO, and how to balance it with shutter speed and aperture to maintain image quality. We’ll practice shooting in challenging light, changing environments, and adjusting settings for noise control.

Pre-Requisites
Photographers should have a good understanding of the exposure triangle and camera settings before taking this course. If shutter speed, aperure & ISO are new terms to your learner, they should begin with the Level 1 Camera Settings course.
