Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this 9-week photography course for 3rd graders, students will dive deeper into the art of photography by focusing on lighting, texture, and capturing details. Learners will explore how different types of natural light—morning, afternoon, and evening—affect photographs. They will experiment with close-up photography to capture intricate details and textures in their surroundings, and learn how to use advanced composition techniques like symmetry and patterns. Students will also create photo series that tell a story or document changes over time, integrating photography with lessons in English, math, science, and social studies. This live, online course provides a creative and hands-on introduction to photography techniques for 3rd graders. Each week, students will explore topics like natural lighting, capturing textures, and photographing movement, with projects that allow them to apply these skills in their own environments. Through interactive lessons, students will photograph plants, animals, local landmarks, and geographic features while learning about science and geography. In addition, they will enhance their storytelling abilities by creating photo essays and writing descriptions or captions for their images. Live Zoom classes will feature engaging presentations, photo assignments, games, and group discussions. Learners will share their work with their peers and receive personalized feedback on their photos. This course is part of a series offering a complete and comprehensive photography curriculum for all grade levels, Kindergarten through 12th grade. All of these courses meet grade-level academic standards for photography and integrate other art, English, math, science, and social studies skills.
