Beginner - Advanced Level
In this 9-week course for 7th graders, students will focus on capturing motion and mastering the use of light in photography. Through hands-on projects, learners will explore advanced techniques such as freeze-frame and motion blur, experimenting with natural and artificial light to create powerful stories. They will also practice different perspectives and angles to create unique shots, while photographing landscapes and cultural artifacts to deepen their understanding of geography and diversity. By the end of the course, students will have completed a personal photo series, showcasing their creativity and technical growth. This live, online class offers an exciting opportunity for 7th-grade students to advance their photography skills. Each week, students will focus on a new aspect of light, motion, or perspective, starting with capturing movement using shutter speed and progressing to more complex concepts such as using light to tell a story and exploring different angles in their photography. The course also integrates geography, science, and social studies, with projects like landscape photography and photographing cultural objects. Students will interact with their instructor through Zoom, participating in lectures, live demonstrations, and group discussions. Assignments will encourage learners to experiment with techniques and share their work for feedback and critique. The course will conclude with a personal project where students create a cohesive photo series, and a final photography showcase to present their work to their classmates. This course enhances students' creative expression and technical expertise while connecting photography with real-world topics in science, geography, and culture.
