US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
Beginner Level
This class focuses on the letter Aa and its short vowel sound. We will be learning: Phonemic & Phonological Awareness: Activities with rhyming, blending, segmenting, and manipulating sounds. Students will learn to identify the short a sound with a song, and to identify words with the short a sound by engaging in fun matching activities. Phonics & Word Recognition: Letter-sound correspondences will be introduced through simple CVC words. Kirstin will model and students will follow to sound and blend consonant -vowel- consonant words. Sight Words: students will learn one new sight word. Sight words are commonly seen words that students will learn to recognize without sounding them out. Fluency & Comprehension: We will practice sounding, blending and reading CVC words fluently Kirstin will read a fun short story in class to help solidify that excitement and joy in reading. The story will be followed by questions to check comprehension.

Students will have fun learning to sound and blend letters into words and create a solid foundation that fosters a true love of reading.

Parental Guidance
The student will be offered the use of a pen tool for class. If the student is unable to use the pen, the instructor will be able to draw for the student.
Pre-Requisites
Learners should be familiar with letter names and sounds. They do not need to know every one but they should have already begun learning the alphabet names and sounds.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
