Each week we will explore a different body organ. There will be: * a fine motor skills coordinating craft each week presented by the teacher. Students can show their projects as we go along to inspire others and build self-confidence. The teacher will demonstrate the craft step by step with plenty of room for the children to add their own creative touches. * weekly optional after class activities for children to increase their body system knowledge on their own. There will be a fun, interactive Nearpod lesson link with 3D models of the human body organs and activities as well as printable activity sheets posted to the classroom. It is another fun, engaging lesson kids can do on their own at a convenient time. A Kahoot quiz will be posted to the classroom so students can refresh their memories and check their understanding after class. * Each student will receive a printable Certificate of Completion sent to their own classroom message board on the last day of class. During class, the teacher will narrate and share an interactive slideshow presentation that includes short video clips to enhance understanding. The class schedule is as follows: Week 1: The Brain (we learn about what an organ is in this first class) What is an organ? Without our brain, we couldn't do anything. What does our brain look like, how much does it weigh and how big is it? In this class we briefly mention the nervous system while focusing more on what the brain controls in a general, easy to understand way. Students will complete a step by step teacher led brain craft. The teacher will post fun After Class Activities to increase learning and comprehension including a Nearpod Lesson for students to explore and optional printable activities in the classroom for students to complete after class to extend their knowledge. Week 2: The Kidneys Kidneys clean our blood and remove waste from our bodies. Just like other parts of our body, they work in a team. Students will learn about the human kidneys via teacher presented slideshow and class discussion. Students will engage their fine motor skills by completing a kidney craft. The teacher will post fun After Class Activities to increase learning and comprehension including a Nearpod Lesson for students to explore and optional printable activities in the classroom for students to complete after class to extend their knowledge. Week Three: The Liver: Your liver has three main jobs. Where is the liver located? What does the liver look like and how big is it? Students will learn about the liver via teacher presented slideshow and class discussion. Students will engage their fine motor skills by completing a liver organ craft. The teacher will post fun After Class Activities to increase learning and comprehension including a Nearpod Lesson for students to explore and optional printable activities in the classroom for students to complete after class to extend their knowledge. Week 4: The Stomach Students will learn the main functions of the stomach. What does the stomach look like, how does it help us digest food? Students will learn about the stomach via slideshow presentation by the teacher and class discussion. Students will engage their fine motor skills by creating a stomach craft. The teacher will post fun After Class Activities to increase learning and comprehension including a Nearpod Lesson for students to explore and optional printable activities in the classroom for students to complete after class to extend their knowledge. Week 5: The Skin The skin is our largest organ. Skin is made up of 3 layers. What is the important job of the skin? Students will learn about the skin via teacher presented slideshow in class discussion. Students will engage their fine motor skills by completing a skin organ craft. The teacher will post fun After Class Activities to increase learning and comprehension including a Nearpod Lesson for students to explore and optional printable activities in the classroom for students to complete after class to extend their knowledge.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of five major body organs. Students will engage fine motor skills and use their creativity by making a weekly craft. Students will be able to increase their knowledge with optional after class lessons, activities and quizzes that they can complete on their own. It's like having an extra class each week that students can complete whenever it is convenient for them!
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Adult assistance may be needed for various aspects of the crafts. We will be using scissors and students may need assistance. Adults may assist when needed while remaining off camera.
The after class activities are optional. They will be posted to the classroom and an adult will need to assist students in accessing the material. They include a Nearpod lesson and a Kahoot quiz that do not require accounts. A link will be provided in the classroom. Students can simply click the link to access the material.
Youtube is listed because some short video clips are shared by the teacher during our class lesson via Google Slides to assist children with comprehension.
Supply List
A supply list will be posted to the classroom with the craft supplies needed for each week.
