Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 5
Students will meet live with instructor and other students. 
Teacher will share an interactive instructional slide-show with virtual field trips, hands-on slides that students will annotate in class as well as fun game-like quizzes. 
Students will need to access a Nearpod lesson in class while still engaged in the Zoom lesson. This can be done on a separate device or all on one device.
Students will be provided with Printable PDF Worksheets in the classroom. There will be new worksheets posted weekly and students should have the worksheets with them for class each week. 
There will be a Kahoot Quiz each week that students may take together in class if time allows or by themselves after class. 
Each week contains review of some of the key points in previous lessons. 
The class schedule is as follows:

 Week One:
Introduction to Map Skills: Students will learn
1. Map Keys
2. Compasses/Cardinal and Intermediate Directions
3. Map Scales
4. Longitude/Latitude/Equator
5. Hemispheres/Prime Meridian

Week Two:
Types of Maps
1. Political Maps
2. Physical Maps
3. Topographic Maps
4.Products and Natural Resources Map
5. A brief overview of city, state, national and population maps
6. Floor Plans

Week Three:
Introduction to the United States and Regions
1. Boundaries and Rivers
1. Northeastern States
2. Southeastern States

Week Four:
1. Midwestern States
2. Southwestern States

Week Five:
1. Western States
2. Students will give directions to a family visiting a zoo. They will lead the family to each exhibit the family would like to see. 
3. Review of Weeks 1-5
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of maps; the elements that make up a map, how to read a map and the different types of maps. Students will learn about the regions of the United States and analyze goods maps of each region. Students will gain knowledge about each region of the United States, where each region is located and what makes each region unique.

Supply List
Students will need the printables posted each week in the classroom. Students should have a pen and paper with them for each class. Students will navigate to Nearpod.com to enter the teacher given code in class so that we can begin our interactive lesson.
