Homework
1 hour per week. There is optional homework that helps review the material. You or your student can message me any questions. We will do some written online discussions in the classroom including video or project completion (introductions, what's your favorite part of Excel, what do you want to learn, etc.), a scavenger hunt on Word/ PowerPoint to find the tools we use, or another engaging and interactive activity for anyone who wants to participate to learn the material better and get to know others in the classroom. If the file of Excel created is ever too large, get a parent's or guardian's help to add it to Google Drive and then share the link in the classroom: this way you can still share the file with us even when Outschool's page says the file is too large for me to look at the homework if desired.

Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this class, we learn the basics of using Microsoft Excel 2019.

Having the ability to keep a record such as an agenda in a table format (homework schedule, client details, etc.), organize numbers to quickly add up (for marketing purposes, budgeting, paying bills, etc.), and showing charts and tables based on the math and interweaving the numbers of different columns together into an understandable way is very helpful for homework, school, businesses, and as an adult!
--------
Each recording will be 15 minutes to which you can pause and go back to whenever you want during the time of the course. There will be a total of 4 lessons.

I will post the link to the new lesson each week. You'll have the whole week to look at the material and video at a time that works for you. You will have activities/ discussions posted in the classroom that you can participate in if desired.
---------
Lesson 1-2: Basics of Using Microsoft Excel 2019

Learning the basics of Excel including tabs, ribbons, sheets, wrapping text, setting up a budget chart, using the sum function to add a column, resizing and changing fonts, underlining, adding borders to cells and columns, typing (font, size, italics, bold, etc.), extending columns, etc

Creating a table, deleting or adding rows or columns to create a table, and discuss some shortcuts

Lesson 3-4: Using Microsoft Excel 2019: Continue but in more detail of using shortcuts to subtract, multiple, add, etc.

Using shortcuts and formulas such as adding, subtracting, and multiplying in the form of a chart for income, taxes, and donations to understand totaling and subtracting where money went for a business, self-employment, or personal use. We also went over ways to drag a formula to other cells and how to change cells from round to including decimals.

Learning how to recall or copy/paste information from other sheets to a new sheet and reviewing

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Homework will be to try what has been taught and is optional.

Parental Guidance
Excel can be bought through Microsoft website (though students do not have to do the optional homework: therefore, you do not have to purchase it if you are just listening and watching to understand the skills better vs practicing it yourself). Mac computer's "Numbers" or (the free) Gmail account's "Sheets" is very similar and could be used to practice (though some things will be different instructions than Microsoft Excel). I'm specifically using Microsoft Excel 2019.

Using technology is embedding into our society and having the tools to understand how to confidently use it is important for self-confidence, school, daily use, and the workplace. I have experience in using Microsoft Windows 10 laptops and PCs, HP and Lenovo, and Apple Mac. I have used Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and video maker to enhance celebrations (birthday videos) and become teaching and school tools (PowerPoints with fun transitions to click once the answers have been guessed & Word to create matching worksheets, reports, and flyers). Using Wix, I have created websites for individuals and small businesses. I know use Google Sheets, Mac's Numbers, and Canva weekly. However, just having these tools available on a computer or online isn't truly helpful: knowing how to confidently use a computer and applications allow people of all ages to believe in themselves more. And that is my goal.
