In this 4 week course, students will build upon skills learned in the Level 1 Course to improve and enhance their abilities in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel Programs.

Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students will be given assignments each week to practice the skills learned in class. It should take between 1 and 3 hours each week.
Assessment
Learners are progressed informally through weekly assignments and a culminating project.

Class Experience

In this 4 week course, students will build upon skills learned in the Level 1 Course to improve and enhance their abilities in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel Programs. 

When students jump into this Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel course, they will receive an immediate opportunity to practice applicable skills related to all 3 programs. We will both build upon skills introduced in the Level 1 Course and develop skills. Learners can expect to leave this class will a full knowledge of how to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel most efficiently and creatively. Here is the course schedule: 

Week 1: Background knowledge and skill scaffolding. Word: How to create a newspaper style document using columns, images, shapes, textboxes and color schemes. PowerPoint: How to transform a presentation from good to great through appropriate use of images, colors, designs, animation, transitions, and audio. Excel: Budgeting your lifestyle - Understanding how to store monetary information related to income, expenses, loans, etc. 

Week 2: Skill Scaffolding... Continued. Word: Finalizing newspaper and creating a birthday card for a family member or friend. PowerPoint: How to transform a presentation from good to great through appropriate use of images, colors, designs, animation, transitions, and audio. Excel: Scheduling - How to make monthly calendars to organize practices, work, classes, activities, etc. 

Week 3: All New Skills! Word: Setting up a research paper using headers, footers, bibliographies, footnotes, etc. PowerPoint: Integrating images, videos, and audio into your PowerPoint. Excel: Functions in Excel - VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, and Count

Week 4: Putting the Pieces together: Word - Finalizing research paper and sharing progress with class. PowerPoint: Presenting final PowerPoint presentation. Excel - Advanced functions in Excel - Max and Min, Concatenate, Round, Trim, and Creating new rules

4 Lessons
over 4 Weeks
Lesson 1:
Background knowledge and Skill Scaffolding.
 Week 1 of the course will cover creating a newspaper-style document in Word, including formatting with margins, columns, images within text, and proper titles and headings, as well as using templates. In PowerPoint, students will learn how to enhance presentations with appropriate use of images, colors, designs, animations, transitions, and audio, and understand how to use geometrics to fill empty space. In Excel, the focus will be on budgeting.

Lesson 2:
Skill Scaffolding Continued
 Week 2 will focus on finalizing the newspaper in Word by adding and organizing pictures, changing the document size, and incorporating various elements such as clip art and text. In PowerPoint, students will enhance their presentations by effectively using images, colors, designs, animations, transitions, audio, and creating flow charts. For Excel, the lesson will continue with budgeting, covering the sharing and organization of homework using color coding and converting data into tables

Lesson 3:
Word and PowerPoint - Expert Level
 Week 3 involves presenting the newspaper in Word, making a birthday card with proper sizing and printing instructions, and setting up a research paper by understanding and using headers, footers, and footnotes. Footnotes should be placed after the period and are used to cite research, especially for long statements. In PowerPoint, the focus will be on discussing homework and emphasizing the importance of images and animations.

Lesson 4:
The Grand Finale
 Week 4 will include reviewing tools and discussing templates in Word, sharing birthday/holiday cards, and evaluating the pros and cons of using templates. The focus on the research paper will continue, emphasizing footnotes and in-text citations. In Excel, students will learn tricks for storing words using functions like CONCATENATE, creating tables, and utilizing VLOOKUP.
