During this 6-class Microsoft computer course, students will develop practical computer skills in numerous Microsoft Office programs: Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint to be used in middle school, high school, college, careers, etc.

Homework
1 hour per week. Students will be given assignments each week to practice the skills learned in class. It should take around 1 hour each week.

Class Experience

Welcome! 


This course meets in 2 scheduling formats
- Fall and Spring Semesters (September - May): The class will meet 1x/week for 6 weeks.
- Summer (June - August): The class will meet 1x/week for 6 weeks OR 3x/week for 2 weeks camp format to meet the needs of each learner's unique summer schedule. 

During this course, students will build the skillset to effectively use Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel. These tools are extremely valuable in the workforce, on a resume and are a necessary skill in high school and college. Each week, students will learn a new skill for each program. By the end of the course, students will have confidence to use all three of these Microsoft programs. 
Course Schedule: 
Class 1: Intro to Word, Powerpoint, Excel. Understanding the purposes of each tool and when to use them. 
Class 2: Review fonts in Word. Selecting the perfect Powerpoint genre, font size, and color scheme. Designing your own schedule in Excel.
Class 3: Organizing columns, margins, titles, page layout, etc. in Word. How to "wow" the viewers with transitions, graphics and shapes in Powerpoint. Finishing each learner's schedule and introducing the skills for making a budget in Excel.
Class 4: Organizing words and images in Word. How to add audio and video into Powerpoint. Applying equations and functions to a budget in Excel.
Class 5: Creating a brochure in Word, a dazzling Powerpoint and tables and graphs in Excel. 
Class 6: Taking the skills from all three programs and creating one final, inclusive project.

Students will improve their technology literacy through building competency in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel.

Lesson 1:
Tool Time Trio
 Students will get an introduction to Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, learning the distinct purposes and best uses for each tool.

Fonts and Finesse
 Students will review font choices in Word, select the perfect PowerPoint genre, font size, and color scheme, and design a personalized schedule in Excel.

Lesson 3:
Layout Legends
 Students will organize columns, margins, titles, and page layout in Word, impress viewers with transitions, graphics, and shapes in PowerPoint, and complete their schedules while learning basic budgeting skills in Excel.

 Students will organize words and images in Word, add audio and video to PowerPoint, and apply equations and functions to create a budget in Excel.

    I currently am a credentialed teacher in Washington State and hold my endorsements in biology (5-12), health (K-12) and fitness (K-12). 
    I currently teach AP Biology, honors biology, anatomy and physiology and health science. 
    Last year, I taught biology, environmental science, health, physics and P.E. to middle and high school students.
