This class offers an introduction to the concept of division. It will help the learner understand the idea of sharing equally to solve division problems. We will use manipulatives to help us model and solve problems. First, we will read a book, The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins that shows the concept of sharing equally. Teacher will model how to share equally by demonstrating with counters. The students will be engaged and solve the problems with the help of the teacher. Once we practice and understand, the teacher will give the learners their own division problems to model and solve. Teacher will monitor and provide feedback.

I am an experienced veteran teacher with more than 20 years experience. I have taught third grade for many years, which is where we introduce the concept of division. If children have an understanding of why we share equally, they are better able to solve the division problems. This class will use manipulatives to move around to help with the understanding.
