Beginner Level
Do you like giraffes? In this class we will watch a short video that shares facts about giraffes. We will have a brief class discussion of those facts and survey the kids to see who has seen a real giraffe and where they saw it. After completing the video, we will create a directed drawing (step by step directions) of a giraffe with help from the teacher. The teacher will show the drawing steps one at a time while modeling with her own drawing. Finally, we will share our illustrations upon completion.
Learning Goals
Students will learn facts about giraffes from a video and discussion and then create a directed drawing by modeling from the teacher.

Teacher expertise and credentials
North Carolina Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
In my teaching career, I have found that some students like drawing and are confident in their skills. However, there are some students who don't feel that they have the skills to create a good picture. Using directed drawing (which offers step by step directions), children gain confidence in their skills and the pictures they create are awesome!
