Beginner Level
Strategies to solve multiplication facts will be demonstrated and practiced. We will go over how to use equal groups, making arrays, solving repeated addition and skip counting to help provide a concrete model for solving multiplication problems. A new strategy will be introduced each day. Students will video practice with guidance from the teacher. After several practice problems together, students will then be given time to see if they can solve problems by themselves. Teacher will provide feedback to the students to ensure success.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of the concept of multiplication through exploring different concrete strategies (besides memorization) to solve problems. This will include drawing pictures and even working with manipultaives to solve problems.

Teacher expertise and credentials
North Carolina Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I have taught third grade for over 22 years. This grade is known for multiplication facts. Some facts are harder to memorize, so we learn strategies to help students get the answer. If they can use the strategies, they will be able to solve multiplication problems.
