Students will be given assignments after each instructional video and should submit assignments on the Outschool classroom page.Class Experience
In this class students will learn that self-esteem and confidence are important components in being successful and happy throughout their lives. Students will learn ways to build their self-esteem and boost their confidence even during periods of time in which they may have failed or made mistakes. Each class will have an instructional video followed by a class assignment. Students will be required to submit assignments in writing or by video to the Outschool classroom page. Students will also be required to make observations and give constructive feedback on posts from other students in the class. Class 1: Students will watch an instructional video about the importance of taking care of our garden (self-esteem). **Assignment: Students will write down at least 5 positive things about themselves and share it on the Outschool classroom page. Students are encouraged to make a constructive and kind comment on at least one post from another student. Class 2: Students will watch an instructional video about what makes their self-esteem garden grow. **Assignment: Students will complete a Nearpod assignment. Students should make a list of ways they can make their own "good soil". Students should encourage and be supportive of the other students by making a comment or observation about at least one of the other student's positive statements. Class 3: Students will watch an instructional video about a famous person or persons who overcame obstacles and became a very successful person. Students will also learn about the gardening tools that help them grow and maintain their self-esteem garden. **Assignment: Students will research details about someone they see as a confident person and write down information about that person. This could be a person that is briefly mentioned in the instructional video or it could be another. Research can be done via internet sources, books, magazines or other available resources (parents, teachers, librarian, etc.). After they have completed their research, they will share it on the Outschool classroom page. This can be written or submitted as a video. Students are encouraged to comment on the submission of at least one other student. Class 4: Students will watch an instructional video about changing negative thoughts to positive thoughts and ways to de-stress and clear their minds to put the positive thoughts in their minds. **Assignment: Students will complete a Kahoot challenge that will determine if they can successfully pick out positive statements. They may also be given a Nearpod assignment. Students will write or do a video and submit it on the Outschool classroom page with some ways they are able to change any negative thoughts they may have. Students are encouraged to make constructive comments on at least one other student's comments. All assignments should be submitted on the Outschool classroom page. This class is not therapeutic and should not be substituted for students in need of counseling or therapy. If you need counseling or therapy, please reach out to someone with experience and expertise to help you. If you are in immediate danger please call 911.
Learning Goals
Students will learn that self-esteem is very important in many social situations. Building self-esteem helps to build confidence. Students will learn the best ways to grow their self-esteem garden.
