Parental Guidance
Dear Parent: I am so excited to see a new learner in my class!! I want your learner to have a wonderful experience. To get the best experience, I use Nearpod. Students love the interaction this platform provides. Nearpod instructions are shared in an attachment with the "welcome" message. You do not have to subscribe or register for Nearpod to participate. I will share the Nearpod login code for class around 10 minutes before class begins. Before you join the Outschool class on Zoom, log into Nearpod using the code or link provided on the Outschool classroom page. Your learner will then be ready for class. This helps to make the class go much smoother and your learner will feel more prepared. I hope your learner enjoys the class and learns some great new skills. Thank you for choosing my class. Sincerely, Regina Holloway

Nearpod will be used in the class. Flipgrid may be used at times for non-mandatory homework. Option #1: Setting Up With Two Devices If your learner has access to two devices, they can utilize them both to complete the lesson. These devices can be any of the two mentioned below: -IPad/Tablet -Smartphone -Desktop Computer -Laptop On one device, you will login to Outschool and join the class on zoom as you would for any other class. On the second device, you will login to Outschool and find the Nearpod link under the classroom tab in a post from the teacher. Click this link to open the Nearpod lesson on your second device. *Students can use a mouse or touch-screen! If using a mouse, it is best if the student is familiar with how to use a mouse to draw and interact on screen. The learner will be able to see Zoom on the first device and participate in the interactive Nearpod lesson on the second device. Option #2: Setting Up With One Device For students using one device, click the link provided by the teacher under the classroom tab in Outschool. It works best if you do this 5-10 minutes prior to class time. You will split your device screen to show Nearpod on one half and Zoom on the other half of the screen. Every device works differently as to how you are able to split the screen to show Zoom on one side and Nearpod on the other. If you are not sure how to do this with your specific device, we recommend using Google to find instructions on how to do this with your specific device. **Please note: If you are using an iPad as your one device, you are not able to split the screen with Zoom and Nearpod. The student will have to have Zoom in the background and will only be able to hear the teacher in order to keep Nearpod up and to participate in the lesson. We recommend using a second device (such as a smartphone) if you are using an ipad.
