Students will gain knowledge about social skills and being a good friend to themselves and to others. Classes will include discussion and interaction with other students. Class 1: Students will learn about the importance of the following: facial expression, eye contact, posture, dress and appearance, voice tone and volume, personal hygiene, manners and mannerisms, personal space, touch, and gestures. We will learn the importance of high self-esteem and how to improve our self-esteem and gain the confidence needed in social situations. Class 2: We will discuss verbal and nonverbal communication and practical ideas to increase good social skills. We will do a role play in which students can learn from each other ways to exhibit better social skills. Students will learn ways to practice small talk with others. Classes will be interactive and may have slides, youtube video clips, and discussion. No previous knowledge or experience needed.
