Grade 1 Music Theory: Suitable Preparation for ABRSM Exams (Self Paced)

This class looks into ABRSM grade 1 music theory questions and how to answer them using past papers, preparing you for either taking the exam yourself, or deepening you music theory knowledge. Through the past paper, the questions will be broken down into both how the question should be answered, and what theory knowledge is required to do so. Week 1Lesson 1RhythmThis lesson looks at note values, rhythm values, key terms and time signatures.Week 2Lesson 2PitchThis lesson looks at the notes of the stave, the treble clef, bass clef, accidentals and tones and semitones.Week 3Lesson 3Scales and KeysThis lesson looks at what is a scale?, degrees of the scale, key signatures and the tone and semitone pattern.Week 4Lesson 4Intervals and Tonic TriadsThis lesson looks at what is an interval? and what/how is a tonic triad constructed.Week 5Lesson 5Terms and SignsThis lesson looks at all of the terms and signs required for grade 1 music.Week 6Lesson 6Music in contextThis lesson looks at applying all knowledge into the final questions of the paper.
With regards to music theory, I have taught all grades for many years, to students and adults of all ages, both online and in person. I also have my certificates for passing my own ABRSM music theory exams.
Homework Offered
Homework will include some worksheets based on the weekly topic, and a final past paper at the end.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
The assessment follows a past paper to be completed via the ABRSM website. This will be completed outside the class and serves as a way to check learning and understanding at the end of the course. The paper can be marked with answers from the ABRSM website, but you can also contact if you require any further help.Grades Offered
