This 12-session course is designed to build a strong foundation for learners who are new to theory. It's perfect for the student learning an instrument, would like to learn an instrument, or who loves to sing! Equivalent to 1 semester.

What's included

Homework
1-2 hours per week. Homework will be assigned each week to reinforce what was taught in class. If students have any questions about the assignment please email me. We will go over all assignments in class.
Grading
I do grade the homework assignments. Final grades are offered, upon request. Letter grades are calculated based on a percentage taken from homework assessments and final project. A certificate of completion will be available, upon request.

Class Experience

This class is a fantastic way for your learner to begin their journey into music. We will approach music in a fun and practical way that is great for beginners. This course will introduce learners to the staff, treble and bass clefs, rhythm, musical and rhythmic notation, dynamics, and time signatures. The class will be interactive and the learners are encouraged to actively participate throughout the class. This class is perfect for those who are learning an instrument, would like to learn an instrument, or who love to sing! Since this is a beginning level class, no prior knowledge of music is required, although having a basis of music can be helpful - all are welcome! 

Curriculum:
Week 1: The music staff, note values, rhythm
Week 2: Identifying and reading notes on the treble clef and bass clef
Week 3: Time signatures, rest values, double bar lines, repeat signs
Week 4: Tempo, dynamics, half steps, whole steps
Week 5: Advanced rhythms, flat, sharp, and natural signs
Week 6: Melody, listening to melody and creating a melody, phrasing
Week 7: Constructing a major scale + Review of all material

Students will have the opportunity to ask questions at the end of each class and Miss Brooke will stay on Zoom after class for students to ask questions related to the material. Miss Brooke is very patient and is passionate about teaching music to her students. She can't wait to meet your learner and dive into the exciting world of music theory!
