Homework
1 hour per week. N/A, but Learner is encouraged to continue practicing on their own each week, to select and practice daily a favorite pose or a a breath exercise, developing self-awareness, physical/mental concentration, and building a discipline that will turn into a solid personal practice to help as needed in life.Assessment
Informally, throughout the session, and then with a final review in an encouraging way to help Learner further develop that very important self-awareness.Class Experience
Learner shall be cleared by his/her Physician to engage in the physical practice of Yoga. Class is inclusive; welcomes the neurodiverse learner. Class is available in Spanish. In all of my Yoga classes, proprioception and interoception will be further explored and cultivated. This is a one-on-one adaptive yoga class for any young student needing to cultivate body & mind awareness, strength, or just a brain break from day's stressors. For the little ones, there will be a presentation including Pokemon figures practicing similar poses, so learner will have a myriad of ways of learning the pose, by hearing the demonstration, plus two types of visual aids, a human figure and a pokemon for added fun. A sturdy chair is used as a prop for supporting a variety of poses. Also known as Chair Yoga, it is an inclusive modality which may be practiced by all children, including children who: may want to learn how to do Yoga right there from their desk/chair; need the extra support; just want to learn how to take great body/mind breaks between classes or homework time; or just because it is fun, accessible and can be learned and then practiced anywhere, from the classroom to a train, or from the park to an airplane. Learner will be guided through a complete variety of Yoga poses that are invigorating & relaxing, breathing techniques, starting with the most cleansing, progressing into the most relaxing ones, gifting the child with a sense of relief, oxygenating the body & refreshing the mind, and then relaxing deeper to harmonize all the layers of their being, especially the nervous system. Depending on the Learner, class may be held entirely while sitting on the chair, or we may - in addition- use the chair as a prop for supporting some standing poses. Class may be repeated as needed, on a sporadic or regular basis, as the practice is personalized to the Learner, and there will always be something familiar to enjoy and something new to explore. Teaching style is inclusive, infused with kindness, descriptive of the practices in age-appropriate language, and with mindful interaction. For these reasons and for gauging Learner's interest level and to be able to adjust accordingly, I require open mics and video in my classes so there is a sense of engagement with the material. There is no pre-requisite for this private class.
Learning Goals
