Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
In this class I offer creative combinations of Yoga practices and Mindfulness techniques. Each session is personalized and designed to support the unique needs and interests of learners. Please be sure to complete the intake questions after you enroll so I can start the process of designing a class for your learner!

Each class features developmentally appropriate practices including:

• Instruction in breathing and meditation techniques that foster Mindfulness, relaxation, focus and connection.

• Yoga poses (standing, seated, reclined & balancing) For these I offer verbal instruction, visual demonstrations and options for pose modifications.

• “mini-lesson” on a theme related to Yoga and/or Mindfulness topic (poses, inspiration from nature, music &/or art, meditation, Yoga philosophy, benefits & styles, etc.) For younger learners (ages 3-6) I utilize storytelling and play-based practices for these lessons.

• option to participate without camera (learners must turn camera on when they enter class for verification, but are welcome to practice without it)

•opportunity for learner to share reflections and/or ask questions throughout the session

👁️‍🗨️ My professional training and teaching style is focused on Vinyasa and Restorative Yoga, and Mindfulness practices for children & teens:

• Vinyasa means linking movement with breath. Vinyasa yoga classes vary in style, pace, and intensity (In my classes I invite learners to share how they're feeling using a scale of 1-5, with 1 being tired and 5 being very energetic. I then offer a class experience based on the average number response.) Classes may focus on a specific theme, such as Yoga philosophy, or on strengthening postures, mobility, or flexibility. Because there is no single philosophy, rulebook, or sequence that teachers must follow, each class can have its own unique personality and quirks.

• Restorative yoga is a passive, meditative form of yoga known for its relaxing, calming and healing effect. It involves gentle stretching poses that encourage you to focus on your breath while releasing tension in your body.

• I draw inspiration from a wide variety of Mindfulness experts and am on a constant quest to expand my understanding of these practices. Most of my research includes best practices for sharing Mindfulness with children and teens.

👁️‍🗨️ My Yoga classes are guided by Inclusive Yoga Practice: Core Principles including:

• Thoughtful Language: Clear, straightforward instructions

• Sensory Sensitivity: A calming environment with reduced noise

• Adaptations and Modifications: Pose variations suited to diverse bodies, with emphasis on honoring individual comfort levels.

• Visual Supports: Visual aids and demonstrations for different learning styles

• Adaptable Class Structure: Breaks and variations in pace to match different energy levels and attention spans.

• Fostering Self-Expression: Freedom in pose choices and creative movement, promoting a sense of inclusion.

• Receptive to Feedback: Open dialogue for adjusting teaching methods to meet individual needs and preferences.

• Community Building: Student connections and a supportive, inclusive yoga community both on and off the mat.

Learning Needs
This class is guided by Inclusive Yoga Practice Core Principles
Parental Guidance
Please provide an open workout space free of any items that could potentially trip or cause the learner to slip. Slip-proof socks or bare feet, a water bottle, and comfortable clothing are suggested for this class (keep in mind we'll be doing some inverted poses which can cause clothing to shift, so tucking in or knotting loose-fitting shirts is recommended). While I will be providing instruction in poses that are suitable for beginner and intermediate students, adult supervision is still recommended.
Supply List
Comfortable clothes, bare feet or slip-proof socks, and space to safely move around on the floor. Bring a Yoga mat if you have one, but if not just find an area where you have enough room on the floor to lie down with your arms and legs fully extended. I don't recommend using towels or blankets to replace a Yoga mat, as they can cause you to trip or slip.

*August 2024* I'm currently enrolled in a 30 hour training through Rainbow Yoga, on the topic of Neurodivergent / Additional Needs Kids & Teens Yoga.

I completed my Restorative Yoga Teacher Training in 2023, my 200hr Yoga Teacher Training in 2020 (focused on Vinyasa and Bhakti Yoga) and Children's Yoga Teacher Training in 2015.

I have the following credentials for Yoga Alliance: Yoga Alliance Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 200) and Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider® (YACEP) a Yoga Alliance designation for individuals teaching continuing education courses.

I have 22 years experience as a Yoga practitioner and 8 years experience as a Yoga Instructor.

I have 20 years experience as an educator, with a background in arts-integrated and Reggio-inspired approaches. These influence the way I design and share Yoga & Mindfulness classes.

During my elementary, middle and high school years (in the '90's) I was very active in dance (ballet, contemporary and dance team). In addition to multiple after-school classes each week I participated in dance competitions, conventions and performances throughout these years. During high school I was also active in cross country and track. Because of these experiences I have a diverse knowledge of body mechanics and Yoga practices that can support athletes and any learners who are looking for ways to relax, find focus and/or generally destress.
