A one time class where students will learn the steps necessary to factor polynomials in the form x^2+bx+c ex: x^2+7x+10 x^2-7x+12 x^2-20x+100 x^2+16x+55 Students will have the opportunity to take notes on how to factor polynomials step by step learning that factors are needed that match the sum of terms. Learners will identify every term of the polynomial, figure out the factors of C that when added equal the B term. Students will get to ask and answer questions when working as a group, then analyze and work on examples as independent practice. I will clarify any misconceptions and guide them towards success. Learners will also get to see how to double check their work by working on the problems backwards to get to the original equations and substituting the values of X back to the original equation.
Learning Goals
To factor polynomials on the form x^2+bx+c
Other Details
Supply List
Pencil, notebook, and if possible the attached document.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Texas A&M University of Kingsville
This is a lesson that I have taught both in a public school with a class of 30 students and in private tutoring setting, and I have always been able to identify the misconceptions regarding this lesson. This helps me adjust the lesson to individual needs.
