This on-going live class will work on improving learners working memory, attention & focus, impulse control, self regulation, flexible thinking, planning and organizational skills. Lessons will be fun, interactive and skill based.

Class Experience

Welcome to this exciting LIVE class! In this class, the focus is on teaching your child essential Executive Functioning Skills, which are crucial for their academic success and overall development. As an experienced practitioner in this area, I've crafted a dynamic curriculum that strikes the perfect balance between learning and fun!

Throughout the course, your child will engage in a variety of activities designed to enhance their executive functioning skills. Here's a breakdown of what we'll cover each week:

⭐️ Week 1: Introduction to working memory: Learners will learn through simple language and visuals about our "brain muscles" that can be exercised to become stronger. We will play games to improve our working memory. During this class we will naturally focus on attention & focus. 

⭐️Week 2: Strategies for working memory: Learners will learn strategies to help improve their working memory e.g. using actions, songs, visuals and their fingers to help them. During this class we will naturally focus on attention & focus. 
 
⭐️ Week 3: Impulse control: Learners will focus on why they sometimes need to resist their immediate urges and/or temptations. 

⭐️ Week 4: Impulse control (Continued): Learners will continue to focus on why they sometimes need to resist their immediate urges and/or temptations and HOW this can be achieved. 

⭐️ Week 5: Whole Body Listening: Learners will focus on how to use their whole body to listen to improve their attention & focus.  

⭐️ Week 6: Emotional regulation: We will focus on the ability to manage emotions  in various situations, which is crucial for decision-making and interpersonal interactions.

⭐️ Week 7: Emotional regulation (Continued): We will focus on the ability to manage emotions  in various situations, which is crucial for decision-making and interpersonal interactions.

⭐️ Week 8: Planning: The ability to set simple goals and use strategies to meet the goal/ task.

⭐️ Week 9: Organisation: The capacity to arrange and prioritise tasks.

⭐️ Week 10: Flexibility: Learners will focus on the ability to adapt to change, and think creatively in different situations.

How will the lesson be taught -

📌 Real-Life Examples: Using relatable scenarios or stories to illustrate the practical application of each skill.

📌Games: Students learn best when having fun!

📌Interactive Activities: Engaging in hands-on exercises tailored to each executive function skill. For instance, practicing emotional regulation through role-playing, art, worksheets and mindfulness exercises.

📌Peer Collaboration: Encouraging teamwork and group activities, fostering a supportive learning environment. 

📌Reflection and Feedback: Providing opportunities for self-assessment and feedback to track progress effectively. I'll also work closely with you to support your child's development.

📌Application Beyond the Classroom: Helping your child recognise how these skills extend beyond our lessons into their daily lives.

These lessons are designed strengthen your child's executive functioning skills and help them to gain confidence in applying them independently. I'm thrilled to embark on this journey with your child, and I look forward to seeing their growth and progress!

Hello, I'm Alison, and I'm thrilled to be here to guide your child on a journey of learning important life skills. With over 16 years of experience as a School Counselor, Special Educational Needs Coach, and School Social Worker, I'm dedicated to teaching social, emotional, and well-being skills to children and young people.

During the last decade, I've worked as an international school counselor. I frequently conducted individual and group sessions covering a range of topics, including social skills, anger management, self-regulation, executive functioning, self-control, ADHD/Autism support, and understanding / responding to strong feelings.

My teaching approach involves a three-part method: engaging students' minds by presenting skills objectively, connecting with their emotions by relating skills to their own experiences, and providing hands-on activities to reinforce learning in a multisensory manner. This ensures a deeper understanding and practical application of the skills taught.

I have been teaching social, emotional, well-being and character development for most of my career. To support this work, I have been trained in and utilize various accredited social and emotional programs, including Zones of Regulation, Kelso's Choices, and Second Step. These programs have also played a key role within my lessons as they promote emotional intelligence, empathy, and problem-solving skills.

I have spent a number of years working with students with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. The focus of my work was on developing their executive functioning, social skills, and academics.  

When I'm not teaching on Outschool, I cherish spending time with my family. I have three children ranging from middle school to Grade 2, and we love going on walks together. My favorite moments include watching the sunset and exploring new food. 

I'm excited to get to know my new students and embarking on this learning adventure together. Part of our success will be down to parent collaboration so I welcome your messages before, during, or after any group sessions.
